An inn is comparable to a hotel, motel or a lodge for the simple fact that it offers accommodation to visitors. This sort of establishment started out as a type of tavern that provided beverages and food for those traveling from one geographical region to another or along lengthy roads. Accommodation became a part of the services provided by innkeepers as a result of the needs of weary travelers.
Nowadays the primary function of an inn is to offer lodging for visitors. They are still present in various places, but usually along roads or in quiet and remote locations. Not as big as hotels and quite similar to bed and breakfasts, they offer a limited number of rooms. Food and beverages are available for all travelers that decide to make a pit-stop and have a good meal along with a cold glass of water. But the added benefit of having rooms at the disposition of travelers increases chances of guests returning again and again.
